QORMA / QORMAS

QORMA is an Asian curry-like dish. It consists of meat or vegetables in a spicy sauce with yogurt, cream, coconut, nut, or seed paste.

FAQIR/ FAQIRS

Traditionally, a FAQIR is a follower of Islamic sufism that developed in the 7th century. Later the term was also used in other contexts, for example for Indian ascetics.

QABALA / QABALAS (or QABALAH / QABALAHS)

QABALA is a mytical Jewish tradition. It is based on the attempt to attain a closer relationship with God. There is not only one Qabalah, but various branches.

TRANQ/ TRANQS

TRANQ is the short form of tranquilizer. A tranquilizer is a drug that can calm someone down.

QANAT/ QANATS

A QANAT is a water transport system that is used in desert areas. The water is lead through tunnels from a well in higher regions and down to lower regions. Most of these tunnels don’t exist anymore, but some are still used in Iran today.

QINDAR / QINDARS / QINDARKA (or QINTAR / QINTARS)

A QINDAR is a monetary unit in Albania. The Albanian currency is called the LEK and 100 qindarka make 1 lek.

QWERTY / QWERTYS

QWERTY is a name for the computer keyboard layout used today. Q, W, E, R,T and Y are the first six letters on it.

TALAQ / TALAQS

The TALAQ is a kind of divorce in the Islamic Sharia. When the man divorces his wife, it is called talaq.

SHEQEL / SHEQALIM

The SHEQEL is the Israeli currency. Since 1985 it has been called “Israeli new shekel”.

MBAQANGA / MBAQANGAS

MBAQANGA is a South African music -style that combines the traditional music of the Zulu with jazz, soul, and reggae. It originated in the 1960s.
